How do I add news to Illustrophile?
Illustrophile is an illustration blog for everyone that has an interest in illustration and commercial art.
The site was established in 2007 by Charlene Chua, who is a Toronto-based illustrator. We hope to feature up-and-coming, as well as established but little known illustrators from around the world on this site.
If you would like to suggest a link, please send us a message with the URL on the Contact page.
Thanks for dropping by and we hope to see you again!
Q: What does ‘Illustrophile’ mean?
A: ‘Illustrophile’ is supposed to be a combination of ‘illustration’ and ‘phile’. So it’s supposed to mean ‘lovers of illustration’.
Q: What’s the purpose of the site?
A: The main purpose of the site is to showcase and promote illustrators and commercial artists.
Q: What kind of art do you showcase?
A: We try to showcase all kinds of commercial art, although we focus on the individuals who create the work instead of the studio/ group/ company.
Q: How often is the site updated?
A: We try to put up new features on the site every week day. From 2009, we’re featuring an artist for an entire week on the main page. We hope the prolonged exposure gives the illustrator a chance to be seen by more people, and that he or she in turn has more time to inform friends about the feature. We have no fixed schedules for interviews as yet.
Q: How do I get my site featured on Illustrophile?
A: If you would like to suggest a link, please send us a message with the URL on the Contact page. Due to the amount of suggestions we receive, we regrettably can’t feature everyone. We currently have a fair bit of submissions so it can take us several months to get round to featuring you, so please don’t get upset if you don’t hear from us for a while! If you are selected though, you will be informed by email, so be sure to include that!
HOW DO I ADD MY NEWS TO ILLUSTROPHILE?
You have to be invited to become a contributor in order to post your news to Illustrophile. All illustrators previously featured on Illustrophile are invited to become contributors. This way, you can keep readers updated on your new work long after you have been featured on the site.
How do I register to be a contributor?
Send an email to charlene [a] charlenechua.com with the Subject: Illustrophile News. You must include your link to your previous feature on Illustrophile, if applicable. You can apply for a contributor account if you were not featured before but there’s no guarantee we will approve your account. Companies who deal with illustrators frequently are encouraged to apply for an account to post news about new products featuring illustration.
I was previously featured but I didn’t get an invite to set up a contributor account.
Unfortunately, due to the way the site was set up, there is no easy way to notify and invite everyone who was previously featured. If you were featured though, follow the instructions above and we will set up your contributor account.
What can I post?
You can post up your illustration-related news. Ideally, this would be your new work, awards you won, events you are part of, etc. Illustrophile is meant to help promote illustrators and illustration.
Is there anything I can’t post?
To keep the site ’safe for work’, please refrain from posting up images that have partial or full nudity, profane language or other objective elements. If you really must, please crop the image so that it does not appear offensive.
I made a post, how come I can’t see it on the site?
All posts will have to be approved first, for security. Posts made by users are automatically classified as News and will show up on the News page. Only admins can choose what to make a featured post.
Are you a programmer or developer that loves Wordpress and illustration? If so, we’d love to hear from you! We need some folks to help us better Illustrophile, hopefully by sticking the site with a new look and enabling certain things we have in mind. Please email Charlene directly at charlene [a] charlenechua.com if you want to help out!
We might be able to offer a token fee and the usual links, ads on this site in exchange for your services, but no we can’t toss oodles of cash your way – just so you know!
