Rosemary Squire does some very nice 3d illustrations with a mix of sculpted figure, cloth and what appears to be sponge. Her politically inspired pieces in particular add a light hearted touch to an otherwise serious subject.

Dutch designer and illustrator Metin Seven has a site that is full of his work, including several different styles of illustration. His best works, I think, are his photo realistic 3D illustrations, some of which cleverly illustrate the topics at hand.

Together with George Snow, she runs 3D3world, a Maya training program, in picturesque Tuscany, Italy, which itself makes it a perfect excuse to take time off to get up to date with the premier 3D software.
